Windows Phone 7.

Decent EPub Reader for Windows 8

I will have to check out Book Bazaar. Unfortunately there are a lot of really bad ePub readers for Windows tablets. I've tried quite a few, but haven't found one yet with good touch user interface and annotation features.

ebooks.de seemed okay as a touch interface reader, but has no annotation features. And the desktop Adobe Digital Editions app has okay annotation features, but doesn't work as a touch interface app in tablet mode.

Many of the other Windows Store apps were also pretty poor in that they crashed on launch, or if they worked, poorly rendered the ePubs.

Has been really frustrating as my work has started issuing Windows 8 tablets, and I've been hoping to take advantage of the ePub format for the distribution of internal training materials.

The Readium extension to Chrome browser also seems to render reliably, but isn't a touch interface app, doesn't have annotation features, and isn't as simple for users to open books in as a dedicated app.

I would think the Nook app might be a good choice; it looks like you can import your own personal ePubs and PDFs:

No idea, how good it is.

But this was the one I stumbled over when searching for an Adobe DRM capable reader. Many might not need it, since they strip DRM. But I find it convenient enough and one of the few "real" Metro apps, though I haven't really checked out the features yet.

I have been using Book Bazaar for some time now but after touch support has been recently added to the calibre viewer, the best reading set-up on windows 8.1 for me is the following right now:

A big advantage to me is that there no need any longer to import epubs and mobis from calibre to your reading app or to point your reading app to the calibre library directory and to have to navigate that structure.

Top 3 EPUB Reader for Windows 8 Tablets

Top 3 EPUB Reader for Windows 8 Tablets

We have a popular post covering the top 5 ePub reader application for Windows 7, which you still can reference and use on your Windows 8 desktop. However, since Windows 8 is a touch oriented operating system that works better with the native Windows 8 apps, here are 3 best, at least so far, Windows 8 native ePub reader (formally called metro app) that are not only free but let you pick and read your own DRM-free ePub books from your own library as well.

    BookReader

BookReader has almost all modern features for a book eReader. It supports DRM-free ePub as well as plain text books, multi-column that allows you to read on a wider screen, 3 different themes with selection of fonts for your day/indoor/night readings. You can even pin your favorite books to Start screen so that you can open the books quick right from there.

BookReader is a free native Windows 8 app that you can download and install directly from Windows Store. Simply open Windows Store and search for its name to locate it.

Age rating: 3+ (which is pretty funny)

    OverDrive Media Console

OverDrive Media Console lets you read ePub format ebooks and audio books from 2 different sources: your public, school library, or your own library on your local computer. There are many library that offers the ePub ebook borrowing services but even there is not available in your area, you can still use this app to access your own eBook library.

The reading experience is pretty similar to most popular eReaders out there. Features like bookmarks, table of contents, and font and color selections are all supported.

OverDrive Media Console is a native Windows 8 app that you can download and install directly from Windows Store. Simply open Windows Store and search for its name. It also has different editions for almost all popular different platforms, including Windows Desktop, Mac, Android, iPhone/iPad, and Windows Phone 7.

    Category: Books & Reference / E-reader

    Publisher: OverDrive, Inc.

Freda is the popular eBook reader for Windows Phone platform but now has a division that natively supports Windows 8. It supports DRM-Free ePub, FB2, HTML, and plain text format books. The app fully understands the ePub formatting information and can smoothly render the images and diagrams contained in the books. It also access to quite a few online book categories, e.g. Feedbooks, Smashwords, Gutenberg, Manybooks, etc. You can even use it to work with the Calibre eBook library manager, if you are using one.

The reading experience is similar to other eReaders with probably more color schemes for people to choose from. But I have to complain about the background. It looks so 90s.

Freda is a native Windows 8 app that you can download and install directly from Windows Store. Simply open Windows Store and search for its name.

[SOLVED] need an epub reader that has highlighting

    location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 1, 2014

I'm a relative newbie and I have Xubuntu 14.04. I am a little confused. Xubuntu has an "E-book Viewer"in the graphics section of the applications menu. It's a great viewer. But then when I open up an epub to view in Calibre it comes up in the selfsame "E-book Viewer" from the graphics section of the applications menu. So, #1) Is that "E-book Viewer" part of my default Xubuntu stuff or part of Calibre? Then I need an Ebook viewer that will highlight. "E-book Viewer" will highlight stuff but when you go to highlight something else the previous highlighting disappears. So, #2) Is there a way to get "E-book Viewer" to retain the highlighting? And lastly #3) If "E-book Viewer" will not retain the highlighting, what is a good free Ebook viewer that I can get that will do highlighting? Thanks very much.

What type of view they use to show pages of .EPUB books? Is it normal textview, webview or something custom? How to implement search and bookmark functionality in epub reader as we loaded single html pages in webview? I want to know how to read epub. Is there any api in Android? Any better solution is appreciated.

    Solution 3

This link will help you to develop.

I think if you include the following features to your epub reader app it will be most power full.

1)support for the popular languages like ENGLISH, ARABIC ,CHINES, FRUNCH. (Because the all available epub reading apps in windows phone store have only "English" support)

2)Quick text search ( A feature for helping the user to search a word or text in the opened e-book or in all e-books stored in library)

3)Importing e-books(epub) form the folder named "ebooks" in SD CARD, and form SKY DRIVE, or from WEB SITES.

4)Bookmarking the read part for next time.

5)Highlighting important lines or words and an option to write foot notes (optional)

6)Selecting line or word segment and an option to take a copy of this selected line/words (As in MS WORD ).

If you program a epub reader app with these features and facilities ,

i think that will be a powerful e-book app in windows phone store than

any apps currently available in the store .

plees inform me into my email ID or in my Facebook page [ ]

if you are succeeded with your project. And pls send me a copy of your great app.
